Introduction
Quantifying the true value of data is never an easy task and although disagreements may exist when it comes to this, the one certain thing is that data has value.
Like every other thing that has value, data can be traded (bought and sold) and is being done by entities known as data brokers. These data brokers collect and store personal information about consumers and then sell to organizations in need of the data. This is typically done behind the scenes, without the knowledge of the consumer.
The data brokerage market is said to be a $200 billion industry and there have been projections that data will become the most valuable resource on earth by the year 2022.
What’s Datareum?
Datareum, built on the Ethereum blockchain, is a decentralized marketplace that is being built to enable individuals to monetize their personal data. This personal data can then be sold to academic researchers, market researchers, and any other interested parties.
Why Datareum?
With Datareum, it is believed that a fair and transparent data marketplace can be created in a world where people have full control of their data.
Since it’s built on the blockchain, the decentralized nature makes the database less prone to attacks compared to the already existing centralized alternatives such as Equifax.
An architecture of smart contracts known as The Data Marketplace, confirms or denies the legitimacy of data entered and determines whether it is delivered or rejected.
Customers (Data Providers) are incentivized, with DTN tokens, for making their data available. Because they can choose what data to share, it means the customers are now in charge of their data.
Payments are made to data providers immediately the smart contract has executed. Payment is made in DTN and this can be traded on exchanges or used on the Datareum platform.
Data Requesters can get the exact data they need by creating surveys tailored to their needs instead of buying from a data broker and having to discard a large chunk of irrelevant data. This means the data can be said to be of high quality.
Data requesters can be certain of getting trustworthy, ethically sourced data at their convenience.
Features
• Token Wallet
This will give both Data Provider and Data Requester the ability to send and receive DTN to/from an exchanger or personal ERC-20 wallets.
• My DataVault
This is where all the information the Data Provider wishes to share is stored and managed. Decisions like who to share the data with and who to sell to can also be set here.
• Marketplace For Goods and Services
Data Providers and Requesters can offer goods and services in exchange for DTN. This would be done entirely on the platform eventually but at the early stage, the DTN would be exchanged for vouchers which can then be taken off-platform to complete the purchase.
• Easy Earnings For Early Adopters
A particular percentage (15%) Of token distribution has been set aside to reward early users and supporters. All you have to do is connect your social media and refer your friends!
Token and ICO Details
Datareum (DTN) is the native token which will be used to conduct all transactions on the Datareum platform. It’s an ERC-20 token.
There will be a total of 1 billion DTN with 60% (600,000,000 DTN) up for sale during the pre-ICO and Public Sale. The initial token price of 1 DTN is currently valued at approximately $0.03.
Pre-ICO is scheduled to start April 28, 2018, by 12 PM UTC.
